Tracks
Tracks is a small city of roads and lights, part of Etheric Oasis. Dragging a
finger across the dark grid lays down a glowing road. Small coloured lights come out
and drive along whatever roads there are, speeding up on the straights and slowing
into the corners, choosing their own way at every junction. Lamps grow slowly along
the road, and a light gathers each one it passes, which sounds a note.
Every lamp gathered counts, and when enough have been gathered a building rises
beside the road, so the number in the corner is the city itself. Roads have to go
around buildings once they are there.
Red lights turn up once there is a city worth troubling. The small ones blink
faster and faster and then burst, taking a cross of road with them. The big slow ones
eat the road as they travel. Touching either one puts it out and is worth more than a
lamp, so a city that is looked after grows roughly twice as fast as one that is left
alone. A city that is left alone is damaged but never lost: the red lights keep away
while it is rebuilding.
There is no way to lose and nothing to win. It was made for a child, so there is
nothing to read and nothing to get wrong. There is nothing to buy, no account, no
advertising and no data collection.
The other pages are the pool, a still pool of water reflecting a
night sky, and sand, a small island world seen from above.
There is also an about page.
